Man gets life plus 25 in Hannibal killings

ST. CHARLES, Mo. (AP) - An illegal immigrant who killed his ex-girlfriend and a man after finding them together at her home in Hannibal has been sentenced to life in prison plus 25 years.

St. Charles Judge Nancy Schneider delivered the sentence Monday for Manuel Cazares. The case was heard in St. Charles on a change of venue. Cazares was convicted of two counts of second-degree murder and one count of armed criminal action in April.

During Monday's hearing, Cazares, speaking through an interpreter, apologized to the families of the victims.

Cazares killed his former girlfriend, Amanda Thomas, and Carl Patrick Epley in 2009. Cazares testified that he committed the crime after finding Thomas and Epley together in bed.
