Francis Howell students head back to class

WELDON SPRING, Mo. (AP) - The summer break is officially over for students in one St. Louis-area school district.

Students in the Francis Howell district in St. Charles County are the first in the region to go back to school, as classes began Monday. And for the first time in several years, grade school students in the district are on a traditional schedule.

For the past several years, Francis Howell has used a year-round schedule for elementary school students. District officials said the new schedule is expected to save about $1 million in transportation costs.
