Fast, severe storm knocks out power, downs trees in area

A storm system brought strong winds, lightning and some heavy downpours to the Jefferson City area late Sunday afternoon.

Officials at the National Weather Service in St. Louis said the storms came through around 5:30 p.m., moving from the northwest to the southeast after causing damage in the Kansas City area earlier in the afternoon.

Wind gusts as high 45-63 mph were reported in the Jefferson City area in association with these storms.

According to Ameren Missouri officials, approximately 2,500 of its customers lost power when a feeder line in the Frog Hollow area was damaged due to the severe weather.
