KANSAS CITY (AP) - Attendance in July at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City was twice the attendance for a typical July, thanks in part to an exhibit showcasing Monet's (Moh-NAYZ) Water Lilies.
Museum officials said more than 61,000 people visited the museum last month, making July the largest one-month number since the opening of the Bloch Building in 2007.
Mark Zimmerman, the museum's director of administration, said this year's July attendance was twice what the museum normally sees in July. Many of the visitors came to see the museum's Monet's Water Lilies exhibit, which has drawn about 85,000 people since it opened in April. The exhibit closes Sunday.
Other popular shows have been the Heavens photography exhibit and poet Zach Houston, who writes poems for visitors on his manual typewriter.
