The latest sales tax extension drew 2,145 in favor. Only 572, or 21.05 percent, voted against it.

Turnout for the ballot measure was higher than anticipated, with a 9.66 percent turnout. County Clerk Marvin Register had predicted a 4 to 5 percent turnout, largely due to the excessive heat and humidity.

Sales Tax F, the sixth installment in the Jefferson City sales tax since 1987, is estimated to bring about $26 million to the city's capital improvements budget. The tax will begin April 1, 2012, and last five years.
