Helias tops Kirksville

Deion Hughes had a good game at the plate and on the mound Wednesday as the Helias Crusaders topped the Kirksville Tigers 8-3.

Hughes was the winning pitcher, working the first five innings. He allowed three earned runs on eight hits and three walks while totaling four strikeouts. Bret Gerstner pitched the final two innings for the save, walking two and striking out a pair.

Offensively, Hughes had two hits. Jeremy Braun and Zach Rockers also had two hits for the Crusaders. Braun scored three runs, while Rockers had two RBI.

Helias (12-3) is slated to host Hannibal at 5 p.m. Friday at the American Legion Post 5 Sports Complex.

In Wednesday's JV game, Helias posted a 6-1 victory.
