Blair Oaks Losses

April 29th, 2011 in News

Some nights, things don't always go as planned.

It was one of the those nights for Blair Oaks.

The Falcons fell behind 6-0 after the first inning and never recovered in a 14-4 loss in six innings Thursday to the New Bloomfield Wildcats.

"We just didn't do a good job in that first inning," Blair Oaks coach Harv Antle said. "We didn't make pitches, we missed locations on pitches. We walked the leadoff man, and that's always a bad sign of things to come.

"We booted a couple of balls and had a chance to really minimize the damage."

The Wildcats (8-3), ranked No. 10 in Class 2 in the latest Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association poll, got to pitcher Jacob Koelling immediately as the first five batters reached base on two hits, two walks and an error. Skyler Lucas drove home New Bloomfield's first run with an RBI single. He later scored on one of Blair Oaks' four errors.

After a fly out to left, Trent Crawford did the biggest damage with a three-run triple to give the Wildcats a 5-0 lead. Crawford later scored on a wild pitch to put New Bloomfield up 6-0.

The Wildcats made it 7-1 in the second on a solo home run by Brendon Bailey. New Bloomfield totaled three more in the fourth with two hits and two errors to take a 10-1 lead.

The Falcons (8-6) finished with five hits and threatened in only two innings. Blair Oaks got a run in the top of the second on an RBI single by Anthony Clutts.
