About 50-60 homes in Taney County have flooded

BRANSON, Mo. (AP) - Emergency officials say between 50 and 60 homes in Taney County have flooded, and many of them were underwater for more than 24 hours.

The county's emergency management director, Chris Berndt, says the houses were in Branson, Hollister, Rockaway Beach and unincorporated areas of the county. He told The Springfield News-Leader on Friday that almost every flooded property sustained major damage.

Berndt says damage assessments are being done and officials hope the county will be declared a federal disaster area.

Gov. Jay Nixon's spokesman, Scott Holste, says the state will wait until floodwaters recede before sending assessment teams to counties hit by recent flooding.
