JEFFERSON CITY (AP) - The Missouri Department of Transportation is urging commuters to take up carpooling as a way of holding down the costs of getting to and from work.
With gas prices climbing toward $4 per gallon, the agency says commuters should take advantage of free parking spaces for travelers in 115 lots around the state. A map of the free lots is posted on the department's website.
MoDOT also offers an online ride-matching service to help people find others who are going their way for shared rides.
The state Department of Natural Resources also has information about regional carpooling programs covering the St. Louis and Kansas City areas, as well as central and southwestern Missouri.
