Simonsen wins cleanest building contest

April 26th, 2011 in News

Each year, as part of the Jefferson City Public Schools' effort to provide clean, welcoming buildings, the district holds a competition among the schools' custodial and maintenance staff to see who has the cleanest building.

Each school is visited twice during the year by judges from outside of the district.

Simonsen Ninth Grade Center is the 2010-11 honoree for the second consecutive year. Notably, the school has had three different head custodians throughout the year.

The Joseph and Etta Miller Performing Arts Center placed second, and Thorpe Gordon Elementary School came in third.

All but four schools scored above 72 points out of 84, or 86 percent or above. Therefore, the districtwide, overall quality level has increased from last year.

The district will recognize the custodial crews at a reception/award ceremony at 2:45 p.m. May 5 at the Miller Center.
