KC man gets 3 life sentences for burglary, rape

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - A 24-year-old Kansas City man has been sentenced to three life terms plus 165 years after being convicted of a 2009 home invasion and rape.

Taurian Burton was convicted by a Clay County jury in January of forcible rape, first-degree robbery, two counts of first-degree assault and three counts of armed criminal action.

The Kansas City Star reports Burton was one of two men charged in the July 24, 2009, incident in which both victims were beaten, including a man who suffered a fractured skull, broken finger and other injuries.

The men also are accused of raping a woman at the home even though she pleaded with them that she is HIV-positive.

The other defendant, Anthony Taborn of Kansas City, is scheduled to go to trial in July.
