Upset with what many perceive as a Senate unwilling to negotiate, state representatives on Friday OK'd adding a new redistricting proposal to a bill sponsored by Senate President Pro Tem Rob Mayer, R-Dexter.
But, with the Senate gone for the weekend, the legislative leaders' plans of sending Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon a bill by Friday were ended.
The state Constitution requires the General Assembly to redraw the state's Congressional District lines every 10 years, after the U.S. Census Bureau reports the results of its national headcount - a process complicated this year because Missouri loses one congressional seat.
So far, both houses have rejected the map proposed by the other chamber.
Although they have until the end of the legislative session - May 13, this year - the Republicans wanted to send Nixon a map before the end of the session so the Legislature could try to override a veto, if Nixon rejected their map.
