Graffiti painted on outside of Lewis and Clark

Jefferson City Public School officials and police are trying to find whoever spray-painted graffiti Thursday night or Friday morning at Lewis and Clark Middle School, 325 Lewis and Clark Drive.

District spokesman David Luther said Friday the graffiti was painted on the outside of the building - and was removed quickly Friday morning.

"It's disturbing," Luther said. "There (were) racial slurs and other offensive words (and graphic pictures) painted on the walls."

Luther said they hope that school video cameras might provide information about the vandalism.

He said Principal Bob Steffes talked with teachers and staff Friday, and was planning to use the incident to bolster discussions with students about bullying and the school's policy of not tolerating disrespect.

But, Luther said Friday afternoon, "We don't know anything" about possible suspects.

He encouraged anyone with information to call the Jefferson City police at 634-3000.
