WESTPHALIA - Sometimes all it takes is one timely hit.

On a night when both starting pitchers were at the top of their games, Blair Oaks finally got that timely hit in the top of the ninth inning. Garrett Eskens drove home the winning run with a single to lift Blair Oaks to a 1-0 win against Fatima on Thursday at Lions Field.

"As we got deeper into the game it was evident that both guys were on, both pitchers were doing a great job and it was probably going to be a one or two-run game, so you're just trying to hang around and take advantage of any scoring opportunity you're going to get," Blair Oaks coach Harv Antle said.

After being stymied for eight innings by Fatima's Ethan Williams, the Falcons (6-4) started a rally in the top of the ninth off Jake Plassmeyer. Austin Kempker led off the inning with a hit up the middle. After a failed bunt attempt, Kempker moved to second on a groundout. That set up Eskens, who drove in Kempker from second base with two outs.
