JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder is about a week overdue on a pledge to repay the state $35,050 that he received for hotel stays in the St. Louis area.
Kinder said April 5 that his campaign would pay the state by the end of last week. But as of Thursday, that had not happened.
Kinder campaign attorney Jared Craighead said the Republican lieutenant governor asked him to investigate the most appropriate way to make the payment. Craighead said he is still reviewing the legalities of campaigns reimbursing the state for official expenses but anticipated a check would be sent soon.
One precedent Craighead is examining was a $47,000 reimbursement in 2007 by Democrat Jay Nixon's gubernatorial campaign for the costs of political travel in his state vehicle.
