Mo. expert warns of strong spring allergy season

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - A medical expert at the University of Missouri is warning people to prepare for an especially bad spring allergy season.

Allergy specialist Al Barrier says the heavy winter snowfall provided an abundance of moisture in the soil for tree roots. He says that should lead to a tremendous amount of tree pollen this spring. And he says mold also is expected to be strong.

Seasonal allergy problems in Missouri typically run from March to May. Common symptoms include sneezing, coughing, itchy eyes and congestion.
