Your Opinion: Views on Proposition A #4

Dear Editor:

Many of the claims against Proposition A are without accuracy and justification. Consider the claim that approval of Proposition A will kill the current contract. Fact - modifications to the garbage contract have been made at least two times by the city and the contract remains in force. The third contract modification can reduce hatred toward City Hall, Allied Waste and be more user friendly. This can be done by approval of Proposition A.

City Hall and Allied Waste generated the greed, lack of concern for many people, extortion and distrust of City Hall products which are embodied in the current ordinances and contract. Real and deep problems exist. Approval of Proposition A will give our City Hall authority and direction to correct the festering sores and help generate citywide acceptance of garbage disposal issues.

People who do not use nor pay Allied Waste for that non-use are targets for extortion. These people will be prosecuted by the city's legal system and sentenced with penalties. This atrocious action is part of the existing ordinances/ contract and will be permanently stopped by approval of Proposition A.

Allied Waste has been incorrectly classified as a utility, which needs exclusive rights (like electric, gas, telephone which use pipelines and transmission line on city easements, etc.). This incorrect classification of Allied Waste is the basis for a claim that it deserves an exclusive service contract in the city. Allied Waste is more correctly classified as a pick-up and delivery service (like UPS and FedEX that merely use our streets without easements.)

No pick-up/delivery services need an exclusive citywide contract. Competition in pick-up/delivery services is beneficial.

Jefferson City garbage management is one big stinking mess. Help clean it up by voting for Proposition A which can bring back some respect for city government.
