The Jefferson City Jays opened the Willard Tournament with a pair of wins Friday.
In their first game, the Jays slipped past Logan-Rogersville 2-1.
Payton Logan threw a complete-game three-hitter to get the victory. He struck out five and walked four.
Matt Monaghan and Connor Hager both had a pair of hits for the winners, while Mike Washington had an RBI double and Connor Arcobasso had one hit and one RBI.
Jefferson City then pounded Strafford 19-4.
Rob Vernon had a grand slam and a three-run homer for the Jays, while Drew Sanderson had a triple, home run and five RBI.
Also for Jefferson City, Dylan Brauner had three hits, Jordan Green had three hits and Monaghan had a single and a double.
Sanderson got the win, scattering three hits and giving up three earned runs. He struck out five and walked six.
The Jays (4-0) will play two games today in the event, facing Willard at 9:30 a.m. and Springfield Parkview at 11:30 a.m.
