Grenade found in home's basement

Authorities were called Tuesday afternoon to dispose of a grenade found in a Jefferson City home.

According to fire department reports, a female was cleaning out the basement of a home in the 700 block of Cardinal Street around 2 p.m. when she found what appeared to be a World War II-era grenade. The woman called the fire administration office and was instructed to keep away from the device.

Fire officials called technicians with the Missouri Highway Patrol who came to the home and took the grenade away. No injuries were reported.
