SW Mo. pastor accused of downloading child porn

DUENWEG, Mo. (AP) - A southwest Missouri minister is facing federal charges accusing him of possessing child pornography downloaded from the Internet.

Prosecutors say 51-year-old Michael Crippen of Duenweg admitted to federal agents that he was addicted to adult and child pornography and had downloaded images.

The Joplin Globe reports Crippen, pastor at First Baptist Church in Duenweg, was arrested Tuesday and was being held pending a detention hearing scheduled for Friday.

The federal affidavit says Crippen told investigators he normally looked at pornography in the morning before going to work at his church. Investigators say they found at least 100 images of child porn on his computers.

His attorney, David Mercer of the Federal Public Defender's office in Springfield, was not immediately available for comment Thursday.
