Columbia police: Death of homeless man a homicide

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - Columbia police say they are investigating the death of a homeless man as a homicide.

The body of 52-year-old Jerry Schneider was found Sunday morning at a homeless camp.

Columbia police spokeswoman Jill Wieneke says investigators have not determined a suspect in the death. She says Schneider's face and head were bloody but he was not shot.

The Columbia Tribune reports that the man's family has not yet been located. A memorial is planned for 6 p.m. Thursday at Wilkes Boulevard United Methodist Church. There will also be a vigil to remember those who have died homeless.
