Blair Oaks claims district volleyball title

HALLSVILLE, Mo. - The Blair Oaks Lady Falcons won their first volleyball district title since 2006 on Tuesday with a 25-15, 12-25, 25-22 win over top-seeded Fatima in the Class 2 District 7 Tournament.

"I'm overwhelmed," Blair Oaks coach Joy Northweather said after winning a district title in her first year as the varsity head coach. "The girls played with heart tonight."

The Lady Falcons (21-8-2) entered the district tournament on a three-match winning streak and had won eight of their last nine contests.

Blair Oaks kept things going with a 25-18, 25-20 win over Hallsville in the semifinals.

"I had a good feeling this week," Northweather said. "We've been playing real well."

Against the top-seeded Lady Comets, Cassie Kloeppel led the team with eight kills, while Paige Stockman chipped in with four.

Riley Butler had two kills and five blocks. Amanda Rackers had two kills and four blocks.

After getting a 10-point win in the first game, Fatima got after it in the second game, beating Blair Oaks 25-12.

"We came out on fire," Northweather said. "Fatima just came after us in the second set.

"They had a great set."

Kelcee Rosslan had two aces and 18 assists for Blair Oaks, while Kalli Branch had four aces and two kills.

"We got them on their heels in the third set," Northweather said. "We started mixing up the ball."

Blair Oaks (21-8-2) will take on Whitfield or Principia at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in a Class 2 sectional match at Brentwood High School in St. Louis.

Whitfield, the top seed in District 6, takes on third-seeded Principia at 6 p.m. today in St. Louis.

Hermann, ranked No. 1 in Class 2, will take on the Brentwood at 3 p.m. Saturday in the other sectional match.

The sectional winners advance to the quarterfinal match to be played at 6 p.m.
