Portrait: Retired patrolman finds new assignment at LU

In August 2007, Bill Nelson retired from the Missouri Highway Patrol after serving 35 years.

During his time with the patrol, he was assigned to details during the 1976 Republican National Convention in Kansas City where he provided security for the likes of eventual President Ronald Reagan, Vice President Nelson Rockefeller and President Gerald Ford.

Then he was assigned to work in Jefferson City, which he considers home.
