KT Tunstall takes a cue from hitmakers like Lady Gaga and The Black Eyed Peas on her third studio album "Tiger Suit," infusing it with electronic beats, multitrack vocals and synthesizers.
The problem is, while thumping beats and futuristic sounds work for some, it's not for everyone.
Tunstall had a unique sound already, which she first demonstrated on her 2005 multiplatinum album "Eye to the Telescope" with funky pop grooves like "Black Horse & The Cherry Tree."
On the Linda Perry-produced "Tiger Suit," the music seems disjointed and distracting, like on the headache-inducing "Difficulty." It's almost like she tried a new approach on each track.
You can't argue with her talent. It's more the songs that don't seem like the right choice.
There are a few diamonds in the rough. Tunstall sings about facing fears head on rather than avoiding them in the blues song "Push That Knot Away." "Come On, Get In" also has a good beat.
But on the whole, "Tiger Suit" doesn't have much bite.
