KC conference to focus on bullying, depression

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Bullying in schools and adolescent depression are topics on next week's agenda when the American School Health Association holds its 84th annual conference in Kansas City.

The gathering runs Wednesday through Friday at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center hotel. The conference will highlight recent developments and trends for people who are responsible for the health of students.

The U.S. assistant deputy secretary of education, Kevin Jennings, will speak on creating safe schools. He has been exploring efforts to prevent bullying in schools.

Karen Swartz of Johns Hopkins University will speak about adolescent depression awareness.

The American School Health Association was founded in 1926, with its headquarters in Kent, Ohio.
