Beckham upbeat over England's chances in WCup vote

LONDON (AP) - David Beckham says England is in a strong position to win the vote to host the 2018 World Cup.

The former England captain says "we are confident but not over confident" ahead of the FIFA vote on Thursday.

England is competing against Russia and joint bids from Spain-Portugal and Netherlands-Belgium.

The Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder says he doesn't expect a backlash against England due to a BBC documentary airing Monday night on the bidding process.

Beckham is heading to FIFA's Zurich headquarters to lobby for England's bid. He spoke as he visited London's 2012 Olympic Stadium for the first time since he helped the capital get the Games in 2005.
