The Jefferson City Council is reviewing city regulations on taxicabs and other car services.

Jefferson City Council members will have an opportunity Dec. 6 to vote on a bill that would significantly reorganize the ordinance regulating vehicles for hire in the city.

Current ordinance doesn't distinguish between a taxicab service and other car services -- differences which stem from the kind of vehicles that are used, the rate used, and the scheduling of the service.

Also at issue is whether the city should continue its requirement for these services to be granted a "certificate of need" to become licensed.
