Former UCM students accused of hacking conspiracy

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Two former students at the University of Central Missouri have been indicted in an alleged computer hacking conspiracy.

Federal prosecutors announced the seven-count indictment this week of 26-year-old Joseph A. Camp and 21-year-old Daniel J. Fowler, both of Kansas City.

U.S. Attorney Beth Phillips said in news release that the defendants "sought to victimize thousands of students and others associated with the University of Central Missouri" through the scheme.

The university said it's taken steps to notify individuals who may be affected and offered a paid, one-year membership to a credit monitoring service.

No attorneys are listed for Camp or Fowler in online court records. No home phone number was listed for Camp, and someone who answered Fowler's home phone Wednesday hung up.
