No cause found for downtown Grant City fire

GRANT CITY, Mo. (AP) - The state fire marshal says investigators have not been able to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed four buildings on the town square in Grant City.

The fire tore through three functioning businesses and an unoccupied building on the west side of the town square on Oct. 27. No one was hurt.

Fire Marshal Randy Cole says the blaze caused an estimated $420,000 loss.

The St. Joseph Press reports that Cole says the cause of the fire couldn't be determined because the damage was too extensive, including causing the buildings to collapse into their basements.
