Missouri jobless rate climbs to 9.4 percent in October

Missouri's unemployment rate increased last month while the state's net payroll fell by 2,900 jobs.

The Missouri Department of Economic Development reported Monday that the state jobless rate increased by one-tenth of a point to 9.4 percent in October.

Missouri shed 2,800 jobs in the arts, entertainment and recreation sector.

State economic development officials say the arts and entertainment industry has significant employment swings and speculate that the job cuts could be sooner than normal cutbacks.

The manufacturing sector added 1,800 jobs and more than 1,000 positions were added for private educational services.
