A Jefferson City man is lucky he had his cell phone with him Wednesday evening because without it, emergency crews probably wouldn't have been able to rescue him quickly after he became lost and hurt in the woods.

According to Jefferson City Fire Department Public Safety Officer Jason Turner, crews were dispatched at 6:54 p.m. for a report of male subject who had fallen and injured himself. His exact location was not known, but it was believed he was in an area off of Missouri 179, near Edgewood and Route C.

Turner said the man fed information to 911 operators on his cell phone and the operators sent that information to the firefighters.

Firefighters used an AmerenMissouri power line cut to go down into the woods. They eventually found the man about 100 yards away from the power line cut where he was complaining of pain in his hip area.

It took about an hour and 20 minutes for the operation to be completed.
