Jefferson City conference center plans draw fire from hotels targeted for annexation

Numbers don't add up yet

Earlier this month, City Administrator Steve Rasmussen presented a funding package for the construction of a long-discussed Jefferson City conference center, complete with money to spare.

However, after more investigation, some of the funding sources Rasmussen cited are not as firm as he indicated.

Questions also have arisen about a 2009 memorandum in which several hotel and motel owners agreed to support an increase in the lodging tax if it's put to a vote of the people, but only if certain stipulations are met, including that the city will ask voters to annex into the city limits all contiguous hotel properties.
