Police worker gets probation for stealing

BLOOMFIELD, Mo. (AP) - The former secretary for the Dexter police department has been placed on probation for stealing money from the southeast Missouri department.

The Poplar Bluff Daily American Republic reports that Tammy Fields pleaded guilty Wednesday. She will be required to pay back the stolen money, though the exact amount has not been determined.

Fields resigned in October. She had worked for the department for about a decade.

She was accused of stealing money from a bank account. Authorities also cited discrepancies in evidence money and money deposited for an animal shelter.
