Icy conditions spawn series of accidents

Forecasters predicted the slick, icy conditions starting Wednesday afternoon.

And it came by 5 p.m., prompting area law agencies to be called to a rash of slide-off accidents.

Jefferson City Police Capt. Doug Shoemaker said, in a news release issued about 7:30 p.m.: "We are advising drivers to use extra caution while driving on area roads. ... It appears these weather conditions may continue for some time, so caution is encouraged if citizens must travel.

"As with any inclement weather condition, please allow extra time to get to your destination, and exercise patience and allow for extra distance between you and other drivers."

No totals were available on how many accidents had been reported Wednesday night.
