Historic district boundary in Sedalia is expanded

December 14th, 2010 in News

SEDALIA, Mo. (AP) - The historic district in downtown Sedalia has been expanded to add nearly 50 buildings.

The National Register of Historic Places has approved adding 47 buildings to the 66 buildings that have been in the district since 1993.

The expansion makes more property owners eligible for tax credit programs to pay for rehabilitation or renovation of historic buildings.

The Sedalia Democrat reported Monday that the J.A. Lamy Manufacturing Company plant, a Missouri Pacific Railroad depot and the Fox Theater were among the buildings added to the district.

Sedalia historian Rhonda Chalfant, who prepared the application for the district expansion, says the buildings were chosen for their architectural designs, when they were constructed and what types of businesses they housed.
