DNR says 34 drinking water systems not testing

December 11th, 2010 in News

Missouri environmental officials say nearly three dozen drinking water systems around the state have repeatedly failed to complete mandatory safety tests.

The Department of Natural Resources says 34 systems each have at least three major monitoring violations over the last year. There are about 2,800 public drinking water systems in Missouri. State environmental officials say the monitoring is important but that failing to complete the tests does not mean the water is unsafe.

The systems that have not completed the testing are located in 17 counties from the St. Louis area to southwestern Missouri, near the Oklahoma border. The drinking water systems include campgrounds, mobile home parks, restaurants and a church.
