Judge delays Clemens trial by 3 months

December 8th, 2010 by NEDRA PICKLER, Associated Press in News

WASHINGTON (AP) - A judge is pushing back the trial for baseball star Roger Clemens to July so attorneys can review "voluminous" evidence.

Clemens was originally scheduled to go on trial in April on charges he lied about using performance enhancing drugs.

At a hearing Wednesday, prosecutors said the case has produced some 54,000 pages of evidence. Clemens' attorney Rusty Hardin said they need more time to go through it and hire an expert witness to examine the scientific evidence against Clemens.

Hardin also said the Mitchell Commission and a congressional panel that investigated the use of performance enhancing drugs are refusing to turn over material as evidence for the criminal case. He indicated he will request a subpoena.

Clemens did not comment, but sat taking notes during the hearing.
