Solid waste director stands trial in Missouri this month

December 5th, 2010 in News

NEW LONDON, Mo. (AP) - A trial date has been set for the former director of the Mark Twain Solid Waste Management District who is accused of theft.

Drexel Rothweiler of Palmyra will stand trial in Ralls County on Dec. 22. He's accused of stealing more than $25,000 while he was executive director of the agency.

The district's board fired Rothweiler in May 2007 when an audit allegedly found discrepancies.

Rothweiler told The Hannibal Courier-Post that he denied any wrongdoing and said he had accepted salary cuts several times to help with the district's budget problems.

The solid waste district covers Marion, Monroe, Macon, Pike, Ralls, Randolph and Shelby counties. It helps reduce the area's solid waste, and is funded from fees charged for disposals at landfills in the district.
