Suspect sought following Arkansas officer-involved shooting

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Authorities in Arkansas are looking for an armed suspect who exchanged gunfire with a police officer in Little Rock.

Lt. Michael Ford of the Little Rock Police Department said the shooting occurred shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday when a patrol officer tried to check on a man who was walking in the rain. Ford said the man started running when the officer got out of his patrol car and fired shots at the officer when he was told to stop.

The officer and the man exchanged gunfire before the man fled. Officials said the officer wasn’t injured and it’s not believed the suspect was struck by gunfire.

Ford said the suspect could pose a threat to others. The officer was not immediately identified but has been placed on administrative leave.
