Icy roads cause fender benders, at least 1 deadly wreck in Missouri

MARSHALL, MO. (AP) -- Authorities say icy roads Sunday led to at least one fatal crash and numerous fender benders in Missouri.

The Missouri Highway Patrol says 55-year-old Sherri Jones, of Sweet Springs, was killed around 12:20 p.m. Sunday when the sport utility vehicle in which she was riding slid off the side of a slush-covered stretch of Missouri127 in Saline County. The SUV then struck a sign post, became airborne and overturned. The driver also suffered moderate injuries.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that a St. Charles County police officer was involved in a rollover accident and two other officers slid into ditches. None of them were hurt.

In the St. Louis suburb of Maryland Heights, roads were so slippery that two firefighters walked a woman to a hospital on a stretcher Sunday.
