Propane delivered to Missouri home before deadly explosion

BYRNES MILL, Mo. (AP) - A man killed in an eastern Missouri house explosion told a neighbor that his wife had complained of an odor and feeling ill after they got a propane delivery.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Jim Ingoldsby was killed Sunday and his wife, Brenda Ingoldsby, suffered cuts and bruises in the Jefferson County explosion.

Neighbor Tom Hayes says he and his son-in-law were able to pull Brenda Ingoldsby free but couldn't get to her husband before the fire spread through the wreckage. He says it was "terrible."

High Ridge Fire District spokesman John Barton says the cause is unknown. But neighbor Jim Peirick says Jim Ingoldsby told him propane had been delivered Friday.

A Missouri Propane Safety Commission representative and the state fire marshal's office were at the scene Monday.
