FESTUS, Mo. (AP) - A 3-year-old girl with a rare form of brain cancer got to call the shots at a suburban St. Louis fire department while serving as "honorary chief."
KTVI-TV reports that the Festus Fire Department was plastered in pink when Honorary Fire Chief Adleigh Grace arrived Wednesday. She ate breakfast with firefighters, took a ride in a fire truck and got to check out an ambulance and spray water.
Last November, Adleigh was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a highly aggressive and difficult-to-treat form of brain cancer.
Her mother, Dawn Biles, says her daughter only knows that she has "a bump on her brain." She says that because doctors have given her daughter less than two years to live, the family is focusing on soaking up fun experiences.
