Fraternity involved in past assault investigation reinstated

MARYVILLE, Mo. (AP) -- Northwest Missouri State University has reinstated a fraternity chapter that was closed three years ago during a sexual assault investigation.

The St. Joseph News-Press reports the university announced Monday that it would again recognize the Delta Nu chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon.

The university said in a statement the decision came after collaboration between the university and TKE alumni, who met with several leaders, including the city manager, public safety director and Nodaway County prosecutor.

Nathan Meeker, the acting president of the chapter, said the reorganized fraternity will focus on academics, leadership development, community service and personal character development.

Northwest revoked the fraternity's recognition in November 2015 when a former member was charged with rape after a party at a fraternity house. The fraternity member later pleaded guilty to third-degree assault.
