New leader chosen for St. Louis Veterans Home

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- A Missouri panel has chosen a new leader for the St. Louis Veterans Home following complaints about care and staff morale at the facility.

The Missouri Veterans Commission on Monday announced that members appointed Theresia Metz to be the home's next administrator. She's now the administrator for Fitzgibbon Hospital's The Living Center in Marshall.

Metz is taking over from Interim Administrator Stan Smith, who replaced former administrator Rolando Carter.

Some veterans' families and staff complained of low morale, medication issues and neglect at the facility under Carter's leadership. Several previous reviews didn't turn up wrongdoing, but an investigation commissioned by Gov. Eric Greitens found substandard care at the home.

The allegations prompted pressure from Greitens and others for a leadership shakeup.
