COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) -- The University of Missouri is rehiring three workers it laid off after trying unsuccessfully to find contractors to provide support services for employees experiencing family or professional stress.
The Columbia Daily Tribune reports the staff of the Employee Assistance Program was laid off in August. However, a request for proposals did not result in a contract being offered.
Spokesman Christian Basi said the university signed a 90-day contract with Capital Region Medical Center but the decision created "significant disruption" on campus. That prompted the university to bring back the laid-off employees.
Basi says the university also is reviewing the Health for Life Program to determine if four other employees who were laid off should be rehired.
Basi didn't provide information on the number of bids, if any, were received.
