Man charged with drunken driving in deadly Kansas City crash

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Authorities say a 34-year-old man has been charged with driving while intoxicated in a deadly multi-vehicle wreck on Interstate 435 in Kansas City.

Terry Jones, of Raytown, was charged Thursday with the felony count in the crash that killed Hawa Mohamud. No attorney is listed for him in online court records.

Court records say Jones appeared to be speeding Wednesday before he lost control of his pickup truck, crossed the center median and drove into oncoming traffic. At least eight vehicles were involved in the collision, and Mohamud was driving one of them.

Police say Jones smelled of alcohol, but refused to submit to a blood test until a search warrant was obtained. He had been convicted in 2007 in Jackson County Circuit Court of a misdemeanor DWI count.
