Charge dropped against former Aurora superintendent

AURORA, Mo. (AP) - A former Aurora school superintendent is no longer facing a misdemeanor charge of failing to report child abuse.

The Springfield News-Leader reports the Lawrence County prosecutor dropped the charge against 45-year-old Travis Shaw last week. No reason for the decision was listed in court records.

Shaw was accused this summer of failing to immediately report allegations in late 2016 that a fifth-grade teacher engaged in inappropriate behavior with "several students" at the Aurora high school.

School employees are required by law to report any allegations or suspicions of abuse.

Shaw's attorney has said he made two hotline calls about the allegations to the state.

Shaw began working as director of operations for the Springfield district on Friday.
