Man charged in shooting that wounded St. Louis officer

CASTLE POINT, Mo. (AP) - Authorities say a 28-year-old man faces charges accusing him of shooting an officer in the arm during an arrest in St. Louis County.

County police said in release Friday that officers knocked on the door of a home Thursday night while trying to arrest 28-year-old Jo'von Mitchell on a firearm charge, when he went out a side door and began shooting, hitting the officer in the arm.

The officer was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. After an hours-long standoff, the suspect was taken into custody early Friday.

Mitchell, who's being held on $250,000 bond, faces charges, including first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer and armed criminal action.

Online court records don't list a lawyer for Mitchell.
