Missouri inmate accused in beating death of cellmate

POTOSI, Mo. (AP) - A Missouri prisoner is charged with first-degree murder in the beating death of a cellmate.

The Daily Journal newspaper in Park Hills, Missouri (http://bit.ly/20LrtTI) reports that 38-year-old Brandon Kulhanek was charged Tuesday in the death of 35-year-old Daniel Wilson, killed during a fight on Oct. 14 at the Potosi Correctional Center. Wilson had been imprisoned since 2011 on a life sentence for second-degree murder in St. Louis County.

A probable cause statement says Kulhanek killed Wilson by hitting and strangling him. An autopsy determined that Wilson died of a crushed larynx.

The probable cause statement says Kulhanek planned the killing in hopes of being transferred to a different prison.

Kulhanek is in prison for first-degree assault causing serious injury and violence against a Corrections Department employee or inmate.
