St. Louis County to consider 3 MetroLink expansion routes

CLAYTON, Mo. (AP) - St. Louis County is looking at three possible expansion routes for the light rail system MetroLink, but they do not include the one preferred by St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay.

County Executive Steve Stenger on Thursday announced the routes that will be examined. One would extend MetroLink from Clayton to the Westport area. A second would run from the North Hanley Station to Interstate 270. The third would run from the Shrewsbury station to Butler Hill Road.

Slay has made clear his support for another expansion route, a 17-mile project stretching from north St. Louis County into downtown St. Louis and south along Interstate 55 to Bayless Avenue.

Stenger has called that route by far the most expensive.

The county study could take a year to complete.
